MAYOR'S BLOG: SEPTEMBER 14, 2021
09/14/2021

9-11 is always a somber occasion as we remember what happened on that fateful day in 2001.  This year marked the 20th anniversary of that day when 2,977 victims died as a result of a terrorist attack.  Included in this total were 343 NY City Firefighters, 60 NY City Police Officers, 8 EMT's, 3 State Court Officers, and 1 NY Fire Patrol Officer.  Prior to the Castaways concert in the park last Friday night, the town was pleased to hold a ceremony honoring the memory of those firefighters killed on 9-11, as well as honoring our local Fairview Fire and Rescue.  343 American Flags were placed in the park representing those firefighters killed on 9-11.  Fairview Fire and Rescue members were called up on stage for recognition, and a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the firefighters.  A memorial bench will also be placed near the flagpoles in the park honoring both past and present members of Fairview Fire and Rescue.  The town thanks all the members of Fairview Fire and Rescue for their service to our residents!

We also thank American Legion Post 440 for their participation in this ceremony (21 gun salute, playing of taps, and leading the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag).  We also extended thanks and recognition to present and past members of the military.  We thank Larry Morris of Concord for his flyover in an SNJ WWII aircraft.

Lisa Thomas and her Event Committee did an outstanding job in planning and executing this event.  The Castaways provided us with an excellent evening of entertainment.
