Over the past while, I have been communicating with the Sheriff’s Department about targeting enforcement on Highway 218.  Last Friday, January 29, the Union County Sheriff’s Department conducted a “Targeted Enforcement” on Highway 218 from the Mecklenburg County Line to the Anson County Line.  During a 5-hour period, there were 75 citations written!

Here are the citations:

  • Speeding:36
  • Careless/Reckless Driving:3
  • Unsafe Passing:2
  • Expired Tag:3
  • Expired Inspection:3
  • No Operator’s License:1
  • Improper Towing:1
  • No Trailer Tag:1
  • Failure to Secure Load:1
  • Illegal Tag Cover:1
  • Window Tint Violation:1
  • Written Warnings:22

There were those people who were trying to prevent enforcement by using the Waze App to warn drivers of the location of law enforcement.  If you are one of those using this app to warn others about enforcement, you are being detrimental to the safety efforts on 218.

The Sheriff’s Department has let me know that these “Targeted Enforcements” are going to continue on 218.  I will not publicize when and where they will occur.

As always, feel free to contact me at pthomas@fairviewnc.gov
