MAYOR’S BLOG:  JANUARY 8, 2021

Please see the email below from Pat Kahle.  Pat chairs the Union County Chamber of Commerce.  The 2050 Comprehensive Plan is being finalized.  Note in her email the various areas addressed by the plan.  Several months ago, the various municipalities were invited to a work session where the plan was explained.  Attendees included County Staff, County Commissioners and municipality elected officials and employees.  Each municipality was given time to speak on positive and negative areas of the plan.  I spoke on behalf of our town.

High speed broadband is going to be critical to the future of Fairview.  I fully support any efforts to extend high speed broadband throughout Fairview.  This was the major area that I wanted to emphasize.

The other area that I thought could be improved are the “transitional areas” around the municipalities.  It wasn’t clear whether the transitional areas would be parcel specific, or if they were intended to be distance specific.  Overall, I thought the committee and sub-committees did a good job in developing this plan.

Please click on the links below in the email to view the video, review the plan, and provide your input.  County staff has told me in the past that Fairview is “under-represented” when it comes to providing input to the county.  Please take this opportunity to make your voice heard.

As always, please feel free to contact me at pthomas@fairviewnc.gov

Phil Thomas, Mayor

From Union County Chamber:

I am reaching out to request your assistance and vital input as a business leader in Union County.

Union County is finalizing its 2050 Comprehensive Plan.  This plan addresses many issues facing the County related to growth, transportation, water and sewer, broadband, land use, green spaces, and much more.  The County has asked for feedback from residents and to date, the number of responses has been low.  To ensure the Comprehensive Plan reflects a broad range of opinions, more feedback is needed.

This is where I am requesting your help. I believe more feedback from business leaders is critical to this process.  The deadline for providing feedback is Friday, 1/15/2021.

My request of you:

  1. Visit the website to see what is included in the plan.  You can:
    1. Read the entire 79-page plan (2050 Comprehensive Plan) or
    2. Watch this brief 2 ½ minute video which provides an overview of what is included in the plan (2050 Comprehensive Plan Overview video)
  1. Complete the brief survey:  Comprehensive Plan Survey The survey takes just a few minutes to complete.

The next steps will include a review of the feedback by the sub committees.  They will then provide their feedback to the leadership committee and the plan will then be complete.  It will then go to the County Commissioners.

Thank you in advance for providing feedback to ensure this process truly reflects our community’s needs.  Please share the links with your personal network and encourage others to provide their feedback.

Thank you,
Pat Kahle, IOM
President, Union County Chamber
