Another Saturation Enforcement Event was provided by the Union County Sheriff’s Department on Highway 218 on July 3.  Three different teams of officers, running LIDAR (laser) speed devices, wrote 21 citations.  Citations included speeding, seatbelt violations and license violations.  Our thanks go out to Captain Coble and Captain Thomas and their team of officers for continuing their efforts to make Highway 218 safer for our town and community!  We will continue to work with the Sheriff’s Department, Highway Patrol and NCDOT to push for safety on Highway 218.

Thanks to all the Fairview residents who provided input into the Union County Critical Intersection Analysis.  Two of the fifteen intersections identified as critical are in Fairview (Highway 601/Brief Road and Lawyers Road/Fairview Indian Trail Road).  I have been notified by the NCDOT that the Lawyers Road/Fairview Indian Trail Road intersection has now been funded with safety funds by the NCDOT.  Plans are to build a roundabout at that intersection with Right of Way acquisition to begin in the Spring of 2021, and construction scheduled for Summer of 2022.
