Thanks to everyone who came out to the informational meeting on the Highway 218 Corridor on July 10th. The NC DOT, Union County Transportation, and the Union County Sheriff’s Department were on hand to answer questions. Much of the information provided is now posted on the town website. See “Highway 218 Roundabout Information.” There are links under this tab for the Roundabout Sites, Roundabout Posters, and the NC 218 Corridor Improvement Projects. It is interesting to note the statistics on the Roundabout Posters. Note that crashes and fatalities are significantly reduced after the installation of roundabouts.
I attended the Union County Sheriff’s Department promotion ceremony on July 16th. Congratulations to former council member Bradley Purser on his promotion to sergeant! I also talked with Sheriff Cathey and thanked him for the saturation patrols on 218. There is additional saturation patrols planned for the near future.
